The seawall is a stone wall around the perimeter of Stanley Park constructed to prevent erosion of the park by the sea. Most of the Stanley Park section of the wall was built between 1914 and 1971 and the full path extends 22 kilometres. After years of conflict and discourse, in-line skaters and cyclists now share the pathway with pedestrians. The seawall facilitates active enjoyment of Stanley Park by Vancouver residents and guests -- one of the world’s greatest parks and a 400 hectare blessing of green on the downtown core.
